About the event
Cyanotype is an antique photographic process from 1841 known for it's rich Prussian Blue color. Originally developed for and by scientists, cyanotype is enjoying a resurgence as an "alternative process" and contemporary artists are embracing it for its uniquely hand made look. Cyanotype is also referred to as a "sun print" or "blueprint," as in old architectural plans.
In this workshop you will learn the fascinating history of cyanotype and create two original prints using either your special objects or the ones provided. Suggested small objects include those with interesting silhouettes, such as baby socks or necklaces, or transparent elements, such as lace or glass objects. Each participant will first create a practice print to see how chosen objects will work with the medium, then one 11" x 11" print, suitable for framing. Cyanotype is harmless and will not damage your objects and is suitable for even the youngest artists!
